2,000 tanks and over 1,000 planes were used to attack poland. Summary of how the battle/s transpired The German plan for the invasion of Poland had been constructed by General Franz Halder, and was to be executed by General Walther von Brauchitsch. German units would attack Poland from three directions. 1 a main attack on the western Polish border. 2 would start a second route of attack from Prussia. 3 a third assault would be from the allied Slovak units from Slovakia. Eventually Warsaw surrendered and the invasion stopped. Strategies used in the battle/s The germans used the “blitzkrieg” strategy. This was condensed by extensive bombing to destroy the enemy’s air space their railroads, communication lines, and munitions places. This then was followed by a massive land attack with a large number of troops, tanks, and artillery. Once the German forces had destroyed a territory, the infantry moved in, killing anyone remaining. Statistics i.e. casualties, wounded, etc. Germany: 16,343 killed, 3,500 missing, 30,300 wounded. Slovakia: 37 killed, 11 missing, 114 wounded. USSR: 1,475 killed or missing, 2,383 wounded. Poland: 66,000 dead, 133,700 wounded, 694,000 captured.
